Aishah Al-Banawi is a recording artist from Los Angeles. Born in Indiana, she is of Saudi-Mexican heritage. She became the first Saudi woman to sing on TV for middle eastern audiences on “Arabs Got Talent,” and the first Saudi female singer interviewed on “Good Morning Arabia.” During her first semester at Columbia, Aishah took the CSER course “Introduction to Ethnic Studies” as her global core, which inspired her to pursue the major in Ethnicity and Race Studies.  She is committed to her performing career as a medium to educate and bring attention to political resistance and decolonization challenges. Aishah graduated Columbia with a BA in Ethnicity and Race Studies, with a concentration in Ethnomusicology.
