The Barnard Bulletin is celebrating its 125th anniversary! Founded in 1901, The Bulletin has served as Barnard College’s student-run, undergraduate newspaper that prioritizes ethical reporting through an intersectional feminist lens. To celebrate this occasion, we are hosting a panel and gala featuring several journalists that have worked for CBS, The New York Times, Bloomberg, and Inc.

PANEL TOPIC: JOURNALISM’S IMPACT IN AN AGE OF MEDIA MISTRUST

According to a 2025 Pew Research Center survey, Americans’ trust in information from national and local news organizations has declined: “56% of U.S. adults now say they have a lot of or some trust in the information they get from national news organizations — down 11 percentage points since March 2025.”

How can reporters ethically navigate an age of increased political polarization, the rise of AI and social media, attacks on American journalistic institutions, and international conflicts, where journalists themselves have become targets of violence? What is the future of journalism, and what does the media landscape of the next several decades look like? And how can the journalists of tomorrow prepare themselves for a profession so deeply in flux?

Panelists featured:

  • Maria Gavrilovic: Broadcast journalist and producer for CBS News 60 Minutes, produced an Emmy-nominated interview with President Obama
  • Lisa Lerer: National political correspondent at The New York Times, CU Journalism School alum (’04) and adjunct professor
  • Julianna Goldman: Founder of MamaDen, previous White House correspondent at Bloomberg News and correspondent at CBS News, Barnard alum (’03) and Bulletin advisor
  • Rebecca Deczynski: Senior Editor at Inc. Magazine, Barnard alum (’16) and former Bulletin Editor-in-Chief (2014-2016), also published in Domino, Refinery29, and InStyle

A gala reception will follow the panel, providing current students with the opportunity to talk and connect with journalism professionals, panelists, and Barnard alumni. Dinner will be served.
